Perseid Meteor Shower 2012

What an amazing, fantastic and beautiful world we live in! Watched a couple of hours of the meteor shower. Mind you I didn't have to leave my house, our alley way in the back is a perfect viewing spot, no trees in the way and completely dark. My mum, brother and I, and our kitty Saaya who hates being alone, lay on the ground over a blanket and lots of pillows, looked up and saw a fantastic show of bright meteors flying across the sky. Midnight to 2am, although 2am to dawn is the best viewing time. We saw almost 1 every 6-7 minutes. It was just magical. That being said I have to work tomorrow so goodnight to all, and if you do get a chance, check out the meteor shower tomorrow night, I will be up most of the night as I have a late workday on Monday. It's worth watching and comes only once a year... And please take a moment to reflect. Life is beautiful, given all the adversities we face, we still have so much more than many people in this world. Be thankful.

If people could hear the five seconds after we hit "end" on a call, we would all have no friends

Hello Wonderful People!
Time to plug in, use a little more creativity and imagination, get those synapses working -  learn more.

I suppose this is somewhat of an online journal. I'll share as I please, perhaps look back one day and laugh, or have a 'what was I thinking' moment.

Anyhow here's a quick update
We had a lovely thunderstorm the other day, lasted most of the evening and we all sat outside and watched, ran into the pouring rain a few times, acted an age we wish we could go back to. Poor Kitty though, he ran behind the sofa every time there was thunder. The pictures by the way are not of the actual storm, haha, I just like them!

...And Coming up: METEOR SHOWER! THIS WEEKEND!  ooo I'm so excited, the biggest meteor shower of the year. Fingers crossed for clear skies.

Umm...that's all. Haha,  have a lovely day!

It's almost that time again. Coming up soon are the Lyrids. These swift and bright meteors often produce luminous trains of dust that can be observed for sevral seconds. April 21-22, I'll keep you posted.

The universe is vast, astonishing and frankly a little terrifying..the earth is but a spec in this unmeasurable macrocosm. Enjoy these interesting facts:

There are bends and curves in the sky?
As Einstein postulated, matter bends space, the way a heavy weight in a bed will warp the mattress. Light traveling though empty space will move in a straight line, but if matter is warping space, light will travel along the bent space as well. Imagine light from a distant galaxy is on its way to us. But between this galaxy and us is some large mass, like a clump of dark matter. The light from the galaxy will bend around the matter, and when it gets to us it will be slightly distorted, just as if the light has passed through a lens. This process, in fact, is called gravitational lensing

SuperFluid Water? What how?
Astronomers have discovered an extremely hot, steamy world with far more water than Earth, which they are calling a completely new type of planet. The high temperatures and high pressures would form exotic materials like 'hot ice' or 'superfluid water', substances that are completely alien to our everyday experience," said Zachory Berta, the lead author of the study, in a statement.

New planet discovered to be most similar to earth! 2011
New planet discovery excites scientists: the discovery of a new planet 600 light years away with roughly the right temperature for plant and animal habitation is causing a buzz in the science community. Though much larger than Earth, scientists haven't ruled out the possibility of life being discovered.

And lastly....one of the scariest and fascinating things out there for me....the black hole.... This link is a must must must read!!! http://www.crystalinks.com/black_holes.html

Catch you all later !

The very last major meteor shower of this year will peak on the night of December 13-14th! This is one of the most consistent annual meteor showers of the year producing more than 60 meteors - including fireballs - per hour at its peak. The Geminids are not to be missed!

If you are going to watch a meteor shower, here is my advice - as I've chosen the wrong viewing partner in the recent past. I actually enjoy watching it by myself as I don't know anyone who will appreciate even having been able to see one meteor all night. It is a wonderous and beautiful act of the cosmos and I love every second of it, so choose your veiwing partner carefully :)

And for all my Ismaili brothers and sisters, Khushiali Mubarak and what a perfect time for the sky to deliver us a few cosmic gifts to celebrate!

Last 2 Evenings...
Day One.
The rain was thundering down onto the roof of my hardtop, and visibility was low as I entered the the highway. My wipers didn't seem to be moving fast enough and puddles made my tires and steering wheel stop obeying me every once in a while. As I hydroplaned for almost an hour to my destination I looked around for my printout of directions. And of course, at that very moment, I entered a street with a power outage so I could not see anything. You ask why I didn't use the light in my car? It doesn't work. Somehow I managed to figure out where to turn.. and lo and behold, an accident blocking off the only street I know the directions from. The rain continued to pound my windsheild, police lights reflected off the raindrops making it harder to see and I had two choices. To either turn left or right. I made a choice and followed some drivers through a the detour. Some wrong turns and right turns later, I finally ended up making it to my dance practice.

A couple of hours later its time to return home. I am not looking forward to driving back, but waiting to go back home, change and have a warm cup of tea.  I call home to notify my family I'll be leaving when I'm  told the there is a crazy windstorm in our area but on the positive side, the rain has subsided. Perfect. We usually kept something very heavy in my car because it was so light and not very resistant to high winds. And of course, it wasn't in my car at that time. I drove home, somehow, as my car flew side to side, splashing through puddles, and slipping and sliding in between lanes and finally into my parking space at home, almost directly under one of our two massive trees, which deposited a large branch an inch away from my door as I was about to get out.

Day one Over. Day Two.

I had a dance at the aquarium. Something different, and was very much looking forward to it. We decided to make it a fun outing and my parents came with me. It had started snowing a few hours before and large flakes continued to fall very densly I noticed, as we slid down the steep hill from our house onto the main street. Being a typical backseat driver,  my usual nagging about driving faster was now pleas to drive slower. For some reason other drivers felt they were immortal. We drove below speed on the highway and our car went into snake mode a few times, switching between a few lanes, but we finally made it to our destination. Dark clouds loomed above, the snow had turned into tiny wet flakes and we cautiously walked to the door breathing a sigh of relief.
Formalities over, I did my first dance performance.----On a completely unrelated subject, I met a lovely dolphin who came to say hi and followed me as I walked and danced  ----
So anyway, during my second dance performance, My foot somehow located a lone piece of glass  without me knowing and stepped on it. I  managed to finish the performance and as I limped back to the car and sat down, I dreaded the drive home. The weather had improved. There were periodic bursts of light snowfall but still, the roads were slick, and drivers continued to drive maniacally but thank God we made back to our city. We grabbed a bite to eat, laughed, enjoyed and went home. I changed out of my costume, made tea, watched some Office episodes with my brother and then sat in my room, on my laptop and shared my story....
